Altar Servers – At Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church altar servers are an integral part of the Divine Liturgy and other services. Male parishioners who are interested in altar service may contact Fr. Ilya.
Audit Committee – This three-person team is elected during the annual parish meeting. They are charged with reviewing treasurer’s reports and banking account statements as well as making suggestions for financial efficiency.
Choir –Under the direction of Mat. Julia, our parish choir sings responses and hymns during Divine Liturgy, vespers and other services. New singers are welcome and training is available. Contact Mat. Julia for more information and rehearsal times and dates.
Church School – The seeds of faith that enable our children to grow are nurtured here. Visiting children are welcome to join our parish children in Orthodox Christian education.
Class I is taught by Miss Marlene and assistants. This class is for children ages 3 – 5. Instruction takes place immediately after communion in the pre-K classroom in the church undercroft.
Class II is taught by Mr. Paul and assistants. This class is for children ages 6 – 10. Instruction takes place immediately after communion in the parish library in the church undercroft.
Fellowship Center Volunteers – Our Fellowship Center is located next door to our church. Parish dinners and fund raising events are held in the center. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed during food preparation, set up, execution and cleanup for events.
Fellowship Hour – All are welcome to enjoy light refreshments and Christian fellowship immediately following the completion of Divine Liturgy in the main undercroft of the church. Rotating teams set up, provide refreshments and clean up. There is always room for more volunteers. Contact Fr. Ilya if you would like to become a member of a team.
Greeters – Each Sunday a two-person team offers smiles and warm handshakes to parishioners and visitors welcoming them to worship and orienting them with our church. We at Dormition of the Virgin MaryChurch want all who enter our Holy Temple to feel welcomed, respected and part of our church community. Contact Ft. Ilya if you would like to become a greeter.
Parish Council –This 10-member group is elected during the annual parish meeting with the exception of the 3-year and 2-year trustee positions. They, along with our pastor, are charged with providing leadership and financial responsibility to our parish.
Parish Library – All are encouraged to borrow books from our 200 + volume library. Religious, cultural, historical and children’s books are available. The Library is located in the church undercroft.
Readers – Both male and female parishioners read hours and epistle lessons during Divine Liturgy, vespers and other services. Contact Mat. Julia if you are interested in becoming a reader.
